Phakic IOL for Nearsighted Patients Dallas Fort Worth
As a commitment to helping patients achieve their best personal vision, Cornea Associates of Texas offers the Phakic Intraocular Lens and Visian® ICL™ for patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness.
For very nearsighted people, procedures like LASIK may not be an option, leaving them dependent upon thick glasses or contact lenses. The PIOL and Visian® ICL™ provide high-quality, high-definition vision without the need for glasses or contacts.
Both procedures involve placing the lens behind the cornea through a small incision. With Phakic IOL, the lens is affixed to the patient’s iris for stabilization. The Visian® lens is placed in front of the natural lens and behind the iris to stabilize it in an area called the sulcus. These lenses are generally not felt or seen once in place. The procedure allows the natural crystalline lens to be left in the eye, which is necessary for focusing between objects that are near and far. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes 20-30 minutes per eye.
If you are nearsighted or even extremely nearsighted, tired of contact lenses and thick glasses, and at least 21 years of age, you might be a candidate for the Verisyse™ Phakic Intraocular Lens or Visian® ICL™. Only a physician can determine if one of these lens implant surgeries is right for you.
