Not All Eye Doctors Can Conduct LASIK. Find the Right Professionals from the Beginning
While optometrists and ophthalmologists can both determine if you're a good candidate for LASIK, only an ophthalmologist can perform laser eye surgery.
When you work with us, though, you're in luck. Our Fort Worth practice has three trusted ophthalmologists: Dr. Andrew C. Bowman, Dr. Bradley Bowman, and Dr. Joshua Zaffos.
They go a step above by performing a type of personalized LASIK called Intralasik iDesign. It can multiply the accuracy of your eye surgery by up to 25 times when contrasted with traditional LASIK. Do yourself a favor, and select a team that can handle every step of the LASIK process with poise and precision: Cornea Associates of Texas.
Technology Meets Training for Tailored LASIK Treatment
Our eye doctors pair technology with training to give patients hyper-accurate LASIK results. They share their knowledge on refractive surgery both during one-on-one consultations and with their peers, having published over 150 articles and book excerpts.
Our ophthalmologists also use precise technology to perform your treatment: the Intralasik iDesign JNJ Star S4 excimer laser and the blade-free LASIK iFS™ laser. Not to mention, our doctors also engaged in related excimer laser trials.

A LASIK Patient Shares Their Story
“LASIK…has been the best experience! Cornea Associates came highly recommended and I understood why, right from the beginning. They were incredibly thorough getting everything exact leading up to thd eye surgery. LASIK itself was quick and fairly easy. I never got the chance to get nervous during the procedure because a nurse, in the room, was whispering to me every step of the way. Keeping me informed and suggesting things to help. It was incredibly comforting. I would highly recommend…the professionals at Cornea Associates of Texas!”

The best experience. Doctor Bowman was very thorough, checked measurements several times, explained everything he was doing during my entire surgery. My outcome was 20/20, a week later 20/17! Doctor Bowman was very pleased as I. Highly recommend. The staff is incredible too!

LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. We use this laser surgery to reshape your cornea and correct refractive errors that impact your eyesight. Depending on your case, LASIK can treat:
Nearsightedness
When you have nearsightedness, or myopia, your poor vision is the result of a refractive error. It leads light to reach the wrong part of your eye — in front of your retina, as opposed to directly on the retina.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness, or hyperopia, is also caused by a refractive issue. In this case, your cornea may not have the degree of curvature it needs to refract light. Or, you may have an eye that isn't as tall as it should be.
LASIK Also Helps With Astigmatism
Do you commonly have headaches? Or do you squint a lot? Maybe you see halos around lights. These signs can all spell astigmatism. We often use LASIK to help patients with this condition.
Astigmatism commonly occurs with both farsightedness and nearsightedness. It can form when the curves of your lens or cornea don't align with the rest of your eyeball. With care from our LASIK surgeons, though, you can see clearly again.
How Do I Know If LASIK Surgery Is Best for Me?
When you're a good candidate for refractive surgery, our Fort Worth ophthalmologists will simply tell you so during a consultation. From pupil size, to age, to cornea thickness, they will assess a variety of areas. For example, they will ensure that:
You Have a Non-Changing Prescription
Our ophthalmologists will ensure your vision prescription hasn't changed for at least two years before recommending laser surgery. That way, you can have more lasting vision correction results. This also means that pregnant patients are not eligible for LASIK, because their prescription may shift.
You Have a Fixable Concern
We only use LASIK to help with refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. If you have other conditions, like glaucoma or corneal damage, we can treat those too — just using different procedures.
You Don't Have Dry Eye
Dry eye is a common and manageable condition. However, it can still prevent you from being eligible for LASIK. Fortunately, we do offer another laser surgery option for patients with dry eye: PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy.
What to Expect During Custom LASIK Eye Surgery
Planning
After your consultation, we can plan your LASIK eye surgery using our advanced Intralasik iDesign system. It helps us conduct more accurate treatment when compared to traditional LASIK, thanks to custom 3D corneal mapping.
Surgery
Our Fort Worth ophthalmologists always begins treatment by making you comfortable with numbing eye drops. Then, they will reshape each cornea one at a time using the Intralasik iDesign JNJ Star S4 excimer laser. The process simply involves creating a flap, taking away tissue, and putting the flap back into place.
Recovery
Healing from LASIK is incredibly straightforward, taking about three months. Our team will monitor your progress with regular visits, starting with your first day, week, and month after surgery. Then, you'll see us quarterly until a year has passed. If you ever need enhancements after your surgery, we can help with that, too. In fact, all enhancements performed in the first year after your LASIK procedure will be completely free.
